It provides the legal and technical tools which educators and institutions use to share knowledge freely, building on a culture of permissions as opposed to restrictions. In summary:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li> Creative Commons works in tandem with copyright law to provide educators alternatives to <a href=\"\/lida103\/learning-pathways\/creative-commons\/cc-basics\" title=\"Learning in a digital age\/LiDA103\/Creative Commons\/Basics\">refine their copyright<\/a> by transforming the default position of &#8220;all rights reserved&#8221; to &#8220;some rights reserved&#8221; according to permissions determined by the creator of the work.\n<\/li>\n<li> Creative Commons provides <a href=\"\/lida103\/learning-pathways\/creative-commons\/cc-licenses\" title=\"Learning in a digital age\/LiDA103\/Creative Commons\/Licenses\">six license alternatives<\/a> based on the permissions for derivative works and whether or not commercial use is allowed.\n<\/li>\n<li> Creative Commons provides <a rel=\"nofollow\" class=\"external text\" href=\"http:\/\/wiki.creativecommons.org\/Public_domain\">public domain tools<\/a> which allow copyright holders to place their works into the public domain or to mark a work that is already in the public domain as such.\n<\/li>\n<li> The <a rel=\"nofollow\" class=\"external text\" href=\"http:\/\/creativecommons.org\/\">Creative Commons website<\/a> provides a free online tool to <a rel=\"nofollow\" class=\"external text\" href=\"https:\/\/creativecommons.org\/choose\/\">choose a license<\/a> for a creative work.\n<\/li>\n<li> CC<sup id=\"cite_ref-1\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"#cite_note-1\">[1]<\/a><\/sup> licenses are <a href=\"\/lida103\/learning-pathways\/creative-commons\/anatomy-of-a-cc-license\" title=\"Learning in a digital age\/LiDA103\/Creative Commons\/Anatomy\">user-friendly and appropriate for the digital world<\/a>, as they are available in three different formats: the full legal terms, the license summary (deed), and &#8220;machine-readable&#8221; code.\n<\/li>\n<li> With CC licenses, users know in advance which material can be revised, remixed and redistributed as derivative works, according to <a href=\"\/Learning_in_a_digital_age\/LiDA103\/Creative_Commons\/Remix#Compatibility_among_different_CC_licenses\" title=\"Learning in a digital age\/LiDA103\/Creative Commons\/Remix\">compatibility for re-licensing<\/a> among different licenses.<br style=\"clear:both;\">\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span class=\"mw-headline\" id=\"Closing_reflection\">Closing reflection<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>\n<\/p>\n<div class=\"panel iDevice\">\n\t<div class=\"panel-heading idevice-heading\">\n\t\t<div>\n\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"pedagogicalicon\" alt=\"activity\" src=\"https:\/\/course.oeglobal.org\/lida103\/wp-content\/themes\/oeru-course\/idevices\/Icon_activity.png\">\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div>\n\t\t\t<h2>Activity<\/h2>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n\t<div class=\"panel-body\">\n\t\t<div class=\"col-md-12\">\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>Now you should know more about refining your copyright using Creative Commons.
